Black and Brown 101

French beret from Joe's aunt,  Target shirt and skirt, thrifted sweater, vintage Salvatore Ferragamo shoes

I don't know how people who claim you can't wear black and brown together manage to wear clothes. I do it pretty much every day. I guess that's a function of my watch and favorite shoes being brown, and also being slightly averse to mixing too many browns, and my most worn sweater being black.

Anyway, if this black/brown combo is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Vintage touches

Old Navy jacket, Urban Outfitters dress, vintage espadrilles and scarf

Old and busted: safety pins and band buttons on a torn-up denim jacket
New hotness: vintage costume jewelry on a fitted denim jacket

Not that I have anything against safety pins and band buttons as a fashion statement. But clusters of vintage pins and (in this case) clip-on earrings are a bit more novel, and lot more feminine. And it can help spice up that denim jacket you've maybe been wearing all the time with all your dresses this spring.

White dress, Gray Blet

American Rag cardigan, Romy dress, Kohl's sandals, Ralph Lauren sunglasses, vintage belt, Village Books book

If there's one word I constantly type incorrectly in a consistant way, it's belt. It just happened when I wrote in the above caption. In my mind I mean to move my fingers in an orderly fashion, B-E-L-T, but invariably it comes out and 'blet" the first time. And then I start thinking about what a funny word blet would be....hmmmm....

Okay, so curiosity got the best of me. Google tells me blet is indeed a word. According to freedictionary.com the definition is as follows: a state of softness or decay in certain fruits, such as the medlar, brought about by overripening

Yep, I'll be sure to start working that into everyday conversation post-haste.

Mixed Greens

Urban Outfitters coat, thrifted Gap t-shirt, Gap Kids shorts, vintage boots

Thrifted necklace, Fossil watch, Cookie Lee gifted bracelets
The feelings I feel about combining shades of green are, generally, the same feelings I feel about the edible kind of mixed greens. Mostly ambivalence, with a chance of great aversion, and every once in awhile wholehearted approval. Since styling these shorts has ended up being a tad more challenging than I orginally anticipated, though, I gave it a go.

Also, don't worry, I'm not choosing stylistically to slant my photos because it's supposed to look cool. I just decided to grab a few shots in the parking lot on my way home from work because it was getting dark out fast, and ended up just propping my camera on my car hood. I actually had to kind of open my wallet and stick it in the center because it wouldn't stay up by itself. People walking by were confused.

A truly original idea totally from my brain

Old and random shirt from a shop whose name I forget, Pacsun jeans, vintage bracelets, shoes, and ring, Fossil watch

Ever since I got these shoes I've been dying to flout convention and get those straps all wrapped up over a pair of skinny jeans. Woe is me, the weather was a bit too nice for pants for a week or so. Now that I've given it a go, it gets my official stamp of approval. I like having a Weird Style Thing
that I came up with all by myself, so please keep me in ignorance of any instances where you've seen others do this exact same thing. For all I know, I saw it on Chictopia or something a couple years ago and it came back to me in the guise of an original thought, like some sort of fashion cryptomnesia.

In which I lecture you about Value Village

Value Village jacket and sweater, Pacsun jeans,  vintage boots, Fossil watch, Cookie Lee bracelets

I'd like to take a moment to thank the Value Village employee who put this jacket in the little boys' section instead of women's. Now it is mine because I am a diligent thrifter.

Moral of the story: when thrifting, SHOP EVERY SECTION AND SIZE. I spend, like, over two hours in Value Village every time I go because the best stuff is usually crammed in the wrong spot somewhere.

So, I still have a tumblr but for some reason to I started to miss blogger. Here's a post.

I like to call this my Incredible Shrinking Dress. When I bought it last September, it was almost knee-length. Now it's on the cusp of being scandalous. Don't worry, I wear shorts underneath!

I grabbed these lovely espadrilles while on vacation to East Coast a couple of weeks ago, at a consignment shop in Chester, NJ. They are perfect and awesome and I love them, with one minor caveat. I'm super lazy when it comes to putting shoes on, I only own like one pair of shoes with laces that can't just be slipped on with no effort. But these require a two-step application process of wrapping and tying. Oh, how I suffer!
