I can't be distracted

I've been observing the past couple of Everybody, Everywhere events with interest, but could not participate since I don't own either of the previous items spotlighted (spotlit?). But this time, thankfully, I had not one but several options. My first instinct was my black shrunken (read: little boy's size 6) blazer. It's a real workhorse, and goes with everything. I don't think I could screw it up if I tried. But upon further reflection, I decided on a piece that I've owned for years, but have probably only worn about five times. It's not that my J Crew blazer isn't lovely. As you can see, it's a pretty shade of light cocoa with an almost tweed pattern. The problem is, it's slightly too big for me, and I feel like I'm wearing my dad's jacket or something. And I usually try to pair it with pants, and the result is a look that's a bit masculine, but not in a good way.

I knew my best chance at success would be a skirt. In an uncharacteristic bout of luck, I imagined this outfit almost entirely in my head before trying on any single piece. Usually when I attempt this the proportions end up all wrong and I have to start from scratch. But this worked, and I love love loved it! The conservative blazer with an edgy skirt, topped with a hooded sweater for a dash of insouciance. Even the obligatory knee high socks/boots combo came in pitch perfect. Someday, when I can afford it, I'll tailor this blazer a bit so it will be easier to incorporate. But for now, I'm just giddy that it worked out so well today.

Though I'm sure it's some kind of faux pas to have tripod shadow in blog pictures, I choose to acknowledge said tripod and move on.

  4. I love when an outfit in your head translates exactly into a great outfit in real life. And this is a great outfit. The print of the skirt, the socks with the boots and leggings, the hood sticking out under the blazer. It is all working.

  6. You did a great take on the blazer! I'm so sad I wasn't able to participate in the EBEW this week because for some reason it is impossible for me to find blazers that look good. You are a lucky one! And your scenery looks amazing!!

  7. It's so rare that something in your head translates to working in real life, so it's awesome that this worked out! I really like the pattern/texture mixing going on here, and I'm glad you were able to participate in EBEW.
